 CONTINUOUS AND COMPREHENSIVE EVALUATION:

There is an urgent need to make evaluation an integral part of the total teaching learning process and to make testing comprehensive by taking care of all the three domains- cognitive, affective and psychomotor for the all round development of the learner in both scholastic and non- scholastic areas. Traditional examinations take into account only the cognizance of the scholastic area. Hence the attitudes of both the teachers and the pupils are primarily concerned on scholastic achievements. Most of the learning activities tend to neglect many vital areas of a pupil’s personality. CCE aims at meeting up this deficiency by placing adequate emphasis on the development of non-scholastic areas. This will help in developing all aspects of a learner’s growth to his optimal potential.

Why is it Continuous? End of the year examination leads to selective study and study at the eleventh hour which goes against the very purpose of education. Continuous evaluation helps us to regularly obtain data about the strengths and weaknesses of the children. CCE is not an end in itself; it provides opportunities for teachers to make suitable changes in their efforts.

Why is it Comprehensive? One of the main shortcomings of the traditional system of evaluation is that its coverage is limited to academic aspects alone. The objective of the harmonious development of the child’s personality remains untouched.

Thus, CBSE has recommended the scheme of Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation based on the reports of various commissions with the following objectives:

·         To reduce the psychological stress of pass-fail system based on just the formal testing over a short period.

·          To have a holistic approach in education and evaluation.

·          To explore and evaluate talents, aptitudes and attitudes in areas other than scholastic, so as to cover the total personality of the child.

·          To spread the evaluation process over the instructional period rather than confining it to a few hours – test/examination.

The Evaluation Process:

As stated above, the scheme of CCE is meant to evaluate all relevant traits, skills, aptitudes and attitude of the learner in curricular, co-curricular, personal and social areas. We will follow the following format to carry out this process in all classes from I to X.
